Fish Compatibility
I have an established 180g reef tank that has been up and running just over 3 years. I have Acropora's, Frog Spawn, Zoa's, Hydnaphoras Two Brain Corals,a Galaxea Coral, a couple of Montiporas and too many anenome's...they are becoming a nuisance. I had one a year ago.....I now have at least 15 different bubble tips spread throughout the aquarium....this problem is for another day though.
My question to anyone willing to answer...given the size of the tank and the amount of Anenomes.....could I introduce a Maroon Clown into this tank even though it already hosts a Tomato Clown? I have two other compatability questions....I would also like to know if an Emperor Angelfish can coexist with a Cherub Angel and a Potters Angel in this 180 g tank? And lastly, if the angel addition is not advisable, then how about adding another Tang Fish...I like the Powder Blue, the Naso, the Clown Tang and the Sohal. I would like to maybe add one of those but I already have a Yellow Tang and a Blue Hippo Tang, is it safe to introduce a 3rd? |

Hi Bump
To Reef Central I need to know more. Do you have any of the angels you are contemplating and if so what ones? You already have an awful lot of herbivores competing in the tank. An Imperitor doesn't compete with them but can sure wreck you corals. The dwarf angels may be OK but that is not always the case, as sometimes they infight. Usually not a problem in a large tank however. I'd be leery of adding any more large specimen fish and stick with smaller varieties.

Waterkeeper,
Thank you for responding! I do currenlty have a Cherub and a Potter's Angel...about a year and a half now that they have both been in the same tank and knock wood they have coexisted nicely. I do know that adding a large angel is iffy in a reef tank as they can "nip" at corals. I love the emperor it is a beautiful fish and my wife really wants one. I have been told as far as large angels go they might be the safest choice for a reef tank. I was also curious about adding a Maroon Clown Fish even though I already have a Tomato.....that rarely if ever leaves the safety of the anenomes.....by the way the anenomes are spread throughout the whole tank...they are taking over. Lastly if you still advise against the Emperor what about adding a third Tang...I have a Blue Hippo and a Yellow. I like the Naso, the Powder Blue, and the Sohal. I do plan on a Larger Tank in the next year. |

Hi Bump,
I'd be extremely cautious about the Emperor; I'd hate to see it the Last. You have a large tank so having two clowns is not a problem as long as they have separate hosting sites. I'd really worry about any more tangs as they will run out of grazing territory and then, fights will result.
