Question Red Scarlet Shrimp questions

I bought a red scarlet srimp on October 11th and today I got to my tank to see the srimp cut in half in tank. Then I looked again and I saw the red scarlet in the back of the tank. I never had two of them. It looks like the red scarlet lost his whole outer layer. Is this normal, is it possible? Any sugestions of this being possible? Thanks

also I forgot to ask. Should I remove that red scarlet that is dead (or is just a cover)?

Google shrimp molt. It is normal, he has shed his skin.

Yes, he probably molted. I used to think the same thing about my hermits when I first started fishkeeping.

Sure you can remove it. It won't hurt anything. I find my 2 cleaners and 2 scarlets often molt soon after water changes (increased iodide). Of course, they're pigs.

LOL. Mine molt every 2-3 weeks. When they hide for about a day, I know it's time.

I would leave it in--that way, at least you'll get to see your shrimp

If your live rock starts molting, though, you have a real problem.

Cool

hehehe... I was under the impression that I had two shrimps and than I looked at it again to find it dead and I was already blaming the shrimp (red one) for killing the new one (of course I could not figure it out when I had bought it). If I get another one, how can I breed them? how do I know if it is a male or female? I like breeding fishes. Any sugestions? thanks

They may breed in the aquarium but the babies are planktonic so you won't be able to see them very well. They will feed your fish, corals and then be skimmed out. Shrimp are very hard to raise and they will need there own tank to raise the babies

Not sure about all shrimp, but I do know cleaner shrimp are hermaphrodites, that is they can be either/both male or female. So you don't need to try to identify the sex, just buy another shrimp and nature will take it's course, they'll both start producing eggs.

No kidding...

Like others said.. just a molt, but the Blood Red Shrimp are known to hide deep in the rockwork and out of sight all day.
