? about lighting

I have 2 light hoods on my 75g tank. Each hood has 2 65w actinic and 2 65w 12000k. Rt now I am running with 48000k and 520w of lighting. I need to replace the lights and I was wondering if it would be wise to put 65w 10-12000k on the back hood (for coraline growth)and 6700k (for coral growth)on the front hood or should I go with the same k's on both hoods?

????

48,000K? Are you adding together all the Kelvin ratings? If so, it doesn't work that way. 4 bulbs that are 10,000K still equal 10,000K. Just like saying 4 white sheets of paper are all still white. K rating = color.

As for which to choose, a 10,000K and 6700K combo will give you good growth but will look ugg-buttley with all the yellow. Your tank might look like a puddle of urine.

Personally if you want growth but want to keep it at least halfway decent looking, go with all 10,000K.

Would like to reenforce redfishsc's comment "halfway decent looking", you will get the growth, but it's not an ideal lighting setup from a pure "looks" standpoint. All 10k will look Bright and Bland!

Redf, "puddle of urine" I LOL'D, and I love your Ravi quote!

Ravi is the MAN!

BTW, depending on what corals you have, I think an all-10K can look fine. You certainly won't get much in the way of the beautiful glow that actinics give (and even one actinic tube can make a big difference), but a healthy growing tank is always a beauty.

I would have to agree with redfishsc, add an actinic for color.

if these are pcs, why not 2 x 10k and 2 x 50/50?
My supplemental lighting on my 72 is that same lighting and it looks really nice and blue...
