sand STANKSSSSSS!!!!???? why?

well i moved my 125 that had 4 chromis in to my girlfriends house. they are not light! so i started scooping out some sand to lighten it and holy **** did it smell!!!!! it smelled like rotten eggs and just whew is that normal? why does it smell!

Yeah, decomposing matter usually smells like that. Dont you ever smell your skimmer?

yeah never smelled that bad tho. and thats what i figured it was. it was also like black at the way bottom

sounds like anarobic bacteria was released when you moved it. I wouldn't add it to the aquarium

Yep, that's why people recommend not stirring up a sand bed in most cases. Why you scooped it up, you released it.

The sand is still good. I've moved most than most, and always the aquarium's too. I just cleaned that nice smelly sand with SW. Put it back in, no problems at all!

I've always kept mine totally wet, but you can still use it.
