Need help ASAP about buying a used tank

I am considering buying a used tank of craigslist. I need a 180g or so sized tank badly for my FO setup. I'm a poor college kid so I can't afford much. This tank hasn't seen water in 5 years, seems old, never heard of the name brand before, what should I do? Is it a huge risk? It's the only tank in my price range. I got first dibs in a long line of people so I need to let the guy know asap, thanks!

I wouldn't trust it. Alot of holes drilled in bottom that could end up causing problems.

Well I'd use the holes for a overflow/ drain and CL. I'm really worried about the seams. Anyone else?

Join your local reef club. I was looking for a new tank recently and the tanks I wanted were about $150 on craigslist. I spoke with a member of my reef club and got the same tank for a 1/3 of the price. People on craiglist want to get rid of something they don't want or they want to make money on what they're selling. People in the reef clubs generally want to help others. Plus if that thing has been sitting dry for 5 years, it's probably going to have a ton of leaks. Good luck.

As a fellow poor college kid, I'd imagine you would be hard pressed afford the upkeep on a 180 either.

Well I declined it because I am just to afraid it will eventually leak down the road. I have joined all my local clubs/forums, but haven't been able to find anything worth buying yet. The way I look at it, the longer I wait, the more I save and better off I am with buying a tank.

As far as upkeeping the 180g, whats so hard about that? Keep in mind this is a fowlr tank, my 120g reef isn't that bad either. I don't keep SPS, only softies, lps etc. But FO tanks are very easy to maintain. No issues what so ever or expensive at all.
