Koralia fried most of my corals

Hello,

Im posting this as a warning to you all...I bought a little Koralia 1 to keep water moving in my sump and it was giving off electricity into the water of my tank (I dont know if thats considered shorting or what). I didnt notice until my corals all started to really stress out. I lost all sps, zoos still arent open 3 days later, mushrooms are shriveled, xenia melted. That was the only change I made to the tank, so I went to inspect the unit. You can actually feel tiny electrical shocks when you put your finger in the water...I noticed this as I went to remove the pump from the water. If you plug it into a GFI outlet, it immeadiately trips. I think Ive heard of this happening before, but beware and test if you decide to buy one of these pumps. Ive had the Tunze Nanostreams for a while now with no problems at all, I should have spent the extra $$ for another one of those.

I think failures can happen with any brand. I had it happen to a heater. Nuked everything (including the rock- high copper levels). GFI / grounding probe is my solution (although the source of considerable debate, as some suggest the probe can cause problems).

When you submerge electrical appliances into big tubs of corrosive solutions, expect the worst. I think it's only a matter of time before every aquarium device will come with a built in GFCI (like hairdryers have).

Been there done that. Also got a painful shock from 2 K4's that leaked. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time. My tank went downhill for months. All my snails died because they were unable to move in the current which further polluted the tank..

good luck on the rebuild.
