Question Skimmer and Filter sock

Why does my skimmer go crazy/overflows when I put in a new filter sock in my sump? Is there anything I can do to prevent it.

Are you washing or rinsing your filter sock? Are you talking about a brand new one?

New socks will do that. Put it in the washer (no detergent) for a couple of washes. I'd tried rinsing it before, but that didn't help at all.

Rinsing or washing them will help but probably not eliminate it. I use filter socks and they have been washed many, many times and they still make the skimmer foam up a bit more than normal for 15 minutes or so. I just take advantage of it and clean the skimmer at that time.
