Multipe questions about corals!
i just bought a ton of corals for xmas and a had a few questions about them. i got a Prism Favia, supernova zoas, orange ric, blue ice zoas, hobgoblin zoas, atomic green zoas, snowflake polyps, tubs blue zoas, and green button polyps. i have a 96 gallon tank with plenty of LR. i have 2 175 watt MH. i was wondering where i should place all these corals in my tank? Also i would like to know if these guys grow fast or not? I have mushrooms now and they arent reproducing, how do i get a orange ric to reproduce? i have heard many things about where to place favias in a tank? i would like some help with some or all these questions. sorry for so many.
thanks Andrew |

all the zoas should be closer to the bottom of the tank. to get things to reproduce you should just leave them be. or you can cut them in half.

I dont see where else you would put the corals...
IME, the best way to get mushrooms to multiply is to leave them be in a lower light area. I have an amazing looking electric green mushroom that would replproduce, and now has two babies after I moved it to a low light area with low flow. same happened to my green hairy mushroom. it split in half. |

I have seen most people put them in moderate light/flow. I think they like rocks. dont have one myself, so cant speak from experience.

In the future, you'll be much better off learning about the corals before making a purchase. Otherwise, how can you know if they're even compatible with your aquarium? But don't feel too bad, this is something we all do at one time or another...lol.
I'd suggest all of your recent corals be placed down low. The Favia will do just fine in full light or moderate light. It won't like being blasted with lots of flow though, so moderate flow. As for your zoanthids...if you have some rubble rock, make yourself a flat pile of rubble and place your zoanthids in this area, with some separation between each type. This will allow each type to grow onto the rubble rock you've placed around all of them. Now for the most important part...pay close attention.... WE WANT PICTURES!!! |
