Types of Skimmers?
Is there any benefit to a recirculating skimmer other than being able to run it outside a sump? Is in sump or outside preferable? If you are running it outside of sump, does that mean you have to drill your sump or is there plumbing that hangs into the sump? With SOOOOO many types and brands out there, it gets very confusing quite quickly!

Longer contact time, in theory a more efficent design.

Yep, the idea of recirculating is that the dwell time of air with the water is increased, thereby increasing the efficiency of the skimmer.
