singapore angel
I have had a singapore angel for about 3 days..problem is he is so timid. He only comes out of the rockwork to eat or to poke his head out and see what's going on. He was added at the same time as a coral beauty. They dont bother each other and the coral beauty swims thru the singapore's "home" all the time without incident. Is this normal behavior?

Well it is normal for any fish to hide for quite a bit before it gets used to a new tank.. Question, do you have corals/are you planning on getting corals?

I do plan to get some and I know I am at risk of him nipping at them. If that does happen he'll get traded in, but I do know a few people who have successfully kept corals with angels

yeah lol, i've tried that before. I had a beautiful juv. emperor angel fish for about 8 months.. NEVER touched a coral... One day just decided to start eating them. Trust me, it was not fun trying to get him out knowing that he was still eating the corals. I'm never gonna put another angel in there, unless it comes from a previous owner that has had it with corals with no problems.
Anyways, the hiding is normal, and GOOD LUCK

I currently have a 4-5" Cortez angel in my 125. He is in a FOWLR tank now, but the guy I got him from had him in a reef tank for about 6 months. Apparently what happened was, he had never so much as touched a coral for the longest time, then one day, got a taste for it. In the 3 day span that fish was in the reef "nipping" corals, he ate over $500 in corals, including a $230 blue carpet anemone. None of the corals he "nipped" were saved. He literally destroyed them. I will never risk having a full size angel in my reef tank. MAYBE if I get a dwarf angel that has already spent some time in a reef and not bothered anything I would be tempted, but as for now, no way.

I have no luck, so maybe I should be glad he's so timid. maybe he'll be scared of the corals. I know, wishful thinking lol

Nothing to worry about as long as its eating. Before you know it he will be coming up to see you.
