What/How do you feed your tangs?
Besides regular fish food ...mysis..brine etc... how does one feed your tang Algae? can i keep nori in my tank for extended periods? or will it foul my water?
Do i just get some culpera and clip on? Any advice would be great. |

nori works great. you have to be careful on what species of caleurpa you give your tangs because some can be toxic if the tang eats too much. if you thin out your fuge once a month or so you can give some of the caleurpa to the tangs but you have to be careful with it breaking apart and getting in your rockwork. if it gets in your rockwork it will take root and start growing all over the place.

I feed Nori. I use a old powerhead magnet and fold up a some Nori and use the magnet to sink it to the bottom. I try to clean and replace it daily.

My Yellow Tang enjoys Nori and he's also fond of CycloPeeze granules. He eats pretty much anything actually, flake, pellets....mysis, brine shrimp...in the summer I often grab a small shred of lettuce or spinach from the garden and put it on a veggie clip. He prefers nori over that though.

What they don't get from regular flake, they get Rods, Krill, Tigger pods, Artic pods, Julian Sprung's reef veggies, and I give them feather caulerpa and cheato from my sump when I prune.

i used to grow feather calurpa and feed a small handful every night, suplimenteod with ulva and occasionaly dragons breath. i would also feed nori about 3x a week. after i started feeding live macro i never had anothe ick outbreak even when moving tank, houses, and a tank crash.

I feed my tangs spirulina enriched brine, and I soak it in Zoe and Marine C. I'm trying to get them to eat nori.... it's weird, I have a yellow, purple, and powder blue, and all 3 hide from the nori like it's a zombie with a pointy stick. I tried the clip, attatching it to a rock... nothing doing. For some reason they avoid it like the plague.

I try to feed my fish as much living macro algae as possible because I think it is healthier. I have a 34g tank i put some macro algae in and it exploded. I prune it out ans throw it in the main tank and the fish love it. If I have the macro algae in the tank I will usually not supplement with nori.
BTW If you have an asian store near you, try going there for your nori. I found a packet of seaweed an inch thick for like $8. It is much cheaper than chain grocery stores. Just make sure it is roasted with no added flavors.
