fish med shelf life

I was wondering most fish med foods you name it has no shelf life date on it. As we all know they don't give this stuff away !! So when should we throw it away. Like rubbing alcohol peroxide these things keep for ever. I have a few bottles of Malchite green for ich that is 20 years old still green as ever . I baught a new bottle But hate to throw it away if I don't have to.

I got lots of fish meds from a buddy tearing down his tank. They had expiration dates on them so I'd say check the bottle...

Your right on antiseptics, they usually have a prolonged shelf life. Other meds tend to lose potency over time. This is especially true of antibiotics that only last for around six months. The shelf life listed for Basic Green 4, Malachite Green, is stated to be 12 months but that was for its use in phosphate testing. I'd be wary of 20 year old solutions. It won't hurt anything but it may lose its effectiveness as a fungicide. Many liquid solutions are usually considered past prime after about 6 months while inorganic, dry chemicals last at least 2 years. Organic dry compounds vary so much that unless there is a shelf life listed I pitch them within a year.
