Is there such a thing of too much carbon in your filtration?

I believe there is such a thing. I took half my carbon out of my system when my corals werent growing. Since removing they are taking off.

Most carbon puts of P04 that will fuel algae.

I'm sure you can run a huge amount of carbon with unpredictable effects. However, if you're running "a bunch" of carbon and you're noticing drastic effects it could be that the addition of carbon is causing your water to clear up and schocking your coral.
How much carbon are you running, what's in your tank and what are the results? I like to run about five tablespoons of carbon and change it every 1-2 weeks. I agree that some brands of carbon have been found to contain phosphate. I think you're safe with Kent carbon, Chemipure and Bulkreefsupply's carbon. Rick |
