overflow ???
im thinking of doing an overflow setup on my 75 gal reef tank. im using a 40 breeder as my tank. i have a 750gph pond pump that is adjustable and thinking of getting the cpr continuous siphon overflow box. what size should i go with on that.

IMO i would not go with the CPR, i would drill the tank, the pumps are known for going out, i had one on my 75 and the pump failed and i had to replace the floors because of it. some 40 gallon breeders you can drill on the bottom and some you cant, mine was drilled on the bottom, just make sure it is not tempered.
if so you can do the bottom back side and make your omn overflow box from acrilic or buy one, having the tank drilled is the way to go. |

I have been using a CPR CS for over a year and I have lost power numerous times and I have not had a wet floor once yet! (Knock on wood)
I will agree that they are a poorer design and rely on a pump to hold the syphon. I would recommend using a U-tube style overflow box, a little more reliable most say. Brad |

i would be using the aqualifter with the overflow box so if the power went out the return pump would stop so it wouldnt overflow the tank right

i dont want to drill my 75 gal cause its set up and running already with corals in it. the cpr box is suposed to hold siphon even if the tank water gets low

And it does until that pump fails. Then your return pump will pump water to the display and flood the display because the overflow wont be returning water to the sump.
If you do get the CPR look to replace the aqualifter every 6 months just to be safe, the pump is only $12. That is what i have been doind and so far so good... Brad |

in most cases yes, it will hold the suction in the box, but with me when the pump failed the flow stopped going through the overflow therefore causing the tank to overflow,( i also had my rodi running to my tank for top off), so if you just go with the cpr running without an auto top off you would probally be ok.
when i had mine setup when the sump got low the rodi top off would kick in, so when the aqualifter pump failed the water was dumping water into the tank, therefore all over the floor. so in your case you would have to go that route. |

I would not get the CPR one, instead I would get a LifeReef one --- it is a U-tube design which works a lot better. I have one on my 75, and has been running for 6+ years, and has never lost its siphon.

What size sump are you going to be running? Assuming that you are going to have an averaged sized sump (( 20-40 gallons )) I would stick with the 600GPH one, no need to run any more flow then that through your sump.
I have the 600GPH one, and have my main pump throttled back ( A Velocity T2, 650GPH ), figure I am running around 500 GPH with a 30 gallon sump.

How much live rock and what type of skimmer are you going to have? And what do you expect to have in the tank --- the would determine if you have enough filtration or not.
