Scooter Blenny

Are scooter blennies just as tough to keep as mandarins? I have a 46 gallon that's been up & running for about 9 months, I have 60#'s of live rock that was well established when I purchased it, my pod population is IMO high, I can see them all over the place at night. My LFS has had this blenny for 2 months, the owner says he's eating brine & mysis(I tend to believe him as the fish has been there for so long). If I supplement with pods and make sure he's eating other prepared foods do you think he'll be okay in my tank? The last thing I want to do is buy him & have him starve to death.

Yes, Scooter Blennies require the same care and environment as Mandarins. They require the same food as well, maybe even a little more of it because they are a little more active in their hunting and pecking. They also don't grow quite as large so have smaller mouths, so may require more of a population of the smaller pods.

It has been said that Scooters are more likely to eat prepared foods. If you're willing to supplement live pods, if necessary, you should be fine. However, first make sure you don't have any other fish that would out compete the Scooter for the same food source. An example would be a 6 Lined Wrasse, or others of the Wrasse family.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any wrasse or any other fish that would outcompete him for food. I think it's pretty encouraging that he's been alive for 2 months at my LFS, that would lead me to believe he really is a good eater & maybe the owner isn't just trying to make a sale!!!!
