no. while they'll live just fine, they'll eat all the pods, worms, etc. they can find. they're not shy about going down the throat of a coral to steal the food either.

my experimental bait shrimp (same as market shrimp) got pulled and ended up getting fed to the corals and fish.

I don't think so as they are cold water species. but if you have a cold water tank then it should be alright

Haha...thanks, just wondering because they a lot cheaper than 1 cleaner shrimp. Oh well, I think it will do just fine in a hot water tank with cocktail sauce.

food shrimp aren't cold water. most come from the gulf coast (a.k.a. bubba gump shrimp) although I did work a shrimp boat out of north carolina many many years ago.

I was gonna say... shrimp are harvested all over the south pacific. And they certainly fish and catch good quantity when the water was 80 degrees or warmer her in North Carolina. The bigger issue is that they are voracious eaters and naturally school in the wild. Doesn't seems like a good fit.

Cool idea though

before I bought my live rock I kept a bunch of "bait shrimp" in my tank for my husband to use when fishing . while they did live fine they ate like crazy and eventually just ate themselves when I could not meet there food demands
