corals starting to close
My corals have been closing slowly throughout the week and I was wondering what are some causes of this. They don't appear to be dying or anything, just not opening fully. All of my standard levels (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, pH) are perfect...so I'm going to assume it is my calcium levels or phosphate levels. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time
...and by the way, I have: Zoas Akon Lord Frog Spawn (seems fine) Mushroom (seems fine) Monti Sun Coral (seems fine) |

It could be any number of things, and the only way to find out is by trial and error. You say your levels "are perfect", which would rule those out - assuming your test results are accurate. Other possibilities:
- you have some kind of predator that is irritating them. Could be a fish that's either picking at or around the polyps - how's your flow? Are they getting inundated with flow? - what's your temperature? how large are your swings from night to day? |
