Marine Depot Live is no more

I just went to Marine Depot online (Sunday 1/11) and found they are now out of the livestock business. One more victim of the economy, I guess. They were always very good to deal with. Very unfortunate. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Live Aquaria can hang in there.

I think this is just a shift in focus. Livestock takes a lot of overhead. Marinedepot just opened up a new general pet website. They want to be more like DFS. There was really nothing special about there live site. They had the same stuff everyone else has. To succed in livestock you have to have something that stands out. For Live Aquaria they have a lot of things that sets them apart, customer service, divers den, aquaculture.

Tough to stay in business when you never have anything in stock...

Whatever the reasons are for Marine Depot's "shift in focus" I hope it works out well for them. The more competition we have among reliable sources, the better it will be for all of us.

I agree , I just hope it is not another Red Flag "sign" to the long future of our hobby. And now with all the NEW restrictions on importing livestock & rock ,,,we all should be concerned.http://www.animalforum.com/freefreg.htm

I think Marine Depot is stupid for not having a local walk in business. They've got 15 million people in their back yard and they do not offer local pick up.
