(Pics) Anybody know what the heck this is?
Over the past two to three weeks my tank (RSM) has started growing this red gelatinous stuff. It started very small and I thought it was pretty and harmless....now it is getting pretty big and I am beginning to worry. Here are pics:

There is another thread somewhere on RC about this stuff. Its a macro algae and the tank owner had endless requests to buy peices of it.

Asparagopsis taxiformis...aka red cotton ball algae. Manual removal and turbo snails will take care of it.

That's not Asparagopsis-- that stuff looks exactly like red cotton. What you have is another type of macroalgae-- can't recall the name but I had a really beautiful clump of that in my tank until I put my Purple Tang in. It devoured in it less than 24 hours. Since you don't have the type of tank to support a Tang, you might try manual removal, perhaps a Salarias blenny as well.

Here is a link for you:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1122482 I believe it is the thread that jbird69 mentioned above. Good luck with it. It grows very fast and loves to be in direct flow. |

I got mine from Mark.
Thanks again! Love it, except I cant get it to attatch to anything. lol Its a PITA to get to attatch. I had it glued but after a week it pulled itself free. Now I have it pinned down by a small piece of rubble, we'll see if that does it. |
