Where is the sump? I just finished my new set up yesterday with the sump in the stand and am disappointed with the noise coming out of the thing. Go for a "quiet one" in my opinion, think I will purchase one right away after hearing the one I got sound like a Chainsaw in my dining room. Also, oversize a bit but make sure you throw in a ball or gate valve to regulate the output. That way you don't have to be too concerned with the "assumed" capacity of your overflow.

How big is your sump? I like my eheim 1260. A 1262 might be a better option depending on how big your sump is.

Post your "luck" per say. As posted above, I have a noisy "RIO 17HF", and would love to know how the MAG makes out! For a new set up I just built, the noise drives me nuts!

I would go with an Eheim 1262. An equivalent OceanRunner pump would also work well.

thanks everyone for all the help. i guess its my luck that a friend of mine is getting rid of a quiet pump 4000 but im still gonna buy a mag drive pump. unless the quiet pump does the job that that will do. i will keep everyone updated on the outcome

I have used mag pumps with no problem, they make little noise and require little maint. I have a mag 12 on my 140.
