Leave it in your sump, it will eat your phosphates. Just get a bunch of peppermint shrimp to avoid having it grow in your display tank.

I have heard some people have used it in there sumps for use as a nutrient exporter...but I have never seen thier tanks and would suspect that they have some. The one case I remember the person in mind had a copperband butterfly and peppermint shrimp so any invasion into there DT would be taken care of. If its in your refugium then i would suggest a manual removal instead of chemical...but thats just me.

Is it attached to a rock?large or small?

They will find their way into your DT...as others have stated, you can stock the DT with peps or CBB to control them once they reach the DT. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Yes, aiptasia can remove nutrients from your system (never heard of them removing phosphates tho), but I'd rather employ other means of nutrient reduction than aiptasia. GFO, macroalgae, etc. Just my opinion

I agree with Ncastro1981.Remove it.Having Peppermints helped me when i started to see some...never used copperband. Before getting the peppermints i bought a syringe set from Publix and shot'em full of lime juice or lemon juice, cant remember which tho,its been over 4 years and my memory not so good.

bottom line there are far better organisms/algae that will export nutrients.IMO.get rid of it.

if you look at "sump concept" the guy built a fuge with aiptasia in mind. he put a UV sterilizer after the sump to zap any spores that made it out the fuge
http://reefvideos.com/

much braver than me. must not like macro algae or something.
