Is it black and white? (also know as a convict goby) If it is, I don't think you should be. It's what they do

After a week or so you won't get that sand storm. He will still always sift but once he turns it over it will stop having the cloud. I won't ever keep a tank with out one. I love them. Keeps the sand nice a white.

I have gotten mixed input on sifting sand. One LFS will say sifting is good and the other says don't touch the sand (hence no sand sifter).

What is the consensus here? Undisturbed or disturbed sand beds??

I asked the same question about a week ago. Told that they usually only stir the first inch of the sand. I had an orange-spotted Goby in a 35 Hex and he never quit burrowing.. Unfortunately, he died in one of his own cave-ins. You just need to be sure your LR is securely stabelized. In my 75, I put egg-crate under the sand and buried 2 1/2 PVC under key LR pieces so they won't fall.l

They are neat fish...my sand always looked great !!!
