Phosban Reactor Setup

I installed a phosban reactor on my tank about 6 weeks ago. It got my phosphates down from 1.0 to 0.1 which was very good. I need to change the media. when I set it up I used phospan media. I have some phosgard around the house.

Can I use that in the reactor as well or is it better to stick with the phosban?

GFO, I believe, can last quite a while, like PHOSBAN. I don't change my but ever 6 months or so. I could be wrong, but I was under the assumption it doesn't exhaust as quickly as carbon.

Hopefully someone will chime in here and offer a more solid answer for you

The rate of exhaustion depends on how much phosphate is in the tank. Check the effluent from the reactorr to see if it is still pulling it out before pitching the media. GFO can last several months or less than a week.

GFO

A safe bet is to change it every month. If not test it every month for phosphate if it has gone up change the media.

The original phosban took the phosphate reading down considerably, but then it leveled off and is still too high. From my research phosguard is okay so i am trying it. If it gets me the rest of the way there great. if not i will switch back to phosban in a week or two. I may need to get a larger powerhead for it. I currently have a maxijet 400 hooked up, but that is not creating as much media movement as I had with the phosban.

I have been using up the remaining PhosGuard from around the house. I have one change left and then I will switch back to phosban. I switched to API test kits because I was really struggling with the saliferts. According to the API test, phosphate is now 0. Should be able to switch back to phosban and maintain phosphate from here.
