Open Air Aquarium
I was at sea world and I loved one of their aquariums. I was looking through acrylic at an outdoor aquarium with various corals, tangs, etc. I would guess that the pool was about 700-800 gallons in size.
I loved the setup because of the natural light. I live in florida, so it just seems weird to burn MH lights when I have great sunshine outside. But, how the heck do they maintain salinity during a thunderstorm? Do they have some controllers that make automatic adjustments and/or do they have an automatic roof? I'm sure they have 24/7 staff too that could pull tarps over pools during a big storm. They also have millions of gallons of saltwater, so this alone would buffer changes.

You touched on the answer, they constantly change the water with fresh sea water, so the rainwater will be of little concern (very similar to what happens on an open ocean reef).
