urgent!!!!

to all who have had experience with this......corals looked a little funny the last couple hours so i did some investigating and found the temp at 90!!!! i replaced my heater with a temp specific gauge and opened up the top for cooler air to get in there. Is there anything else i can do to drop the temp before everything dies? thanks for any input....

Rich

You can put some ice ina bag and float it. Let a fan blow across the surface of the water will help too. I wouldnt worry too much. Ive seen my tank go up to 92. Its not great but its not too bad. The corals may be a little ticked off but they should be ok. What kind of corals do you have in there?

Both good suggestions. A fan on the sump or tank surface can drop temp 2 degrees pretty fast. Ditto the ice, preferably in the sump. Turn out your lights. They contribute heat and bleaching is reported more likely in light than not.

This is why I will never run a hearer in a tank again. I did the same thing in a fresh water tank back 15 years ago, and lost everything to the heater sticking on, and I have never ran a heater seance then in any tanks.

If your tank stays at a constant 80, then a jump to 90 could be devastating. If your tank is used to the temperature fluctuating, things may not skip a beat. I like my tanks temp to fluctuate between 79 and 83.
