Clams and PO4
I have a crocea clam I've had about a year and a half. I added a phosphate reactor this morning that I've had and run in the past with no problems. All of a sudden my clam looks real crappy and won't extend it's mantle. It's still alive but should I remove the reactor. It's only been running since this morning. Ideas would be great. I didn't think that it would make a huge impact on phosphates so soon, at least not to were it would affect the clam.

If you had high phosphates and used a bunch of media it will drop the phosphates in the tank rapidly.

There is speculation that GFO can boost iron levels and it's believed by some that clams are sensitive to iron and that elevated levels could be one of the causes of pinched mantle disease. I can't recall all the details but it's something to consider, especially if you didn't fully rinse the GFO. You might want to run some fresh activated carbon if you're not already.
