Top off question
I've noticed that I don't take into consideration the amount of salt water that comes out with the skimmer when I'm topping off. So, I'm probably lowering the salinity in the tank since sometimes I skim a bit wet.
What do you guys do about this? |

I never worry about it. I always just make sure my salinity is where it needs to be on my bi-weekly water change.

I noticed the same thing a while back. Just add mixed salt water to what you lose in your skimmer.
I'm surprised that this isn't a bigger issue and someone in the DIY forum making a top off system for the salt water loss from the skimmer.... maybe it's not worth the trouble seeing that it's such a minimum loss... but for wet skimming I would imagine that you would lose quite a bit.

I would say that most of us just adjust salinity with water changes. That's how I do it.
This may be more of an issue for "nano" systems but then again those systems require more frequent attention to maintain water quality. |
