Fish rescue from LPS

So. I was in a store this week many fish seem to be coming down with ich.

I want to try to talk them into giving up some the fish before they die. They have a system (all the same water) with probably 15 tanks...inverts, corals, zoos all in the tanks.

I dont know how they would cure the ich and not hurt anything else, they cant have a q-tank they say.

Any way to tell exactly which fishy disease they have? Ich is spots, but I assume there are others that would affect the fish as well...one has cloudy eyes and maybe even popping out a hair..

I tried the threads in the "fish disease section" but the sticky threads wont open..

I can't take (nor would they give ) all the fish, but maybe the ones that are worst off would have a chance.

Worth a shot, I hate seeing them die because they are foolish..

you will probably find that they won't sell you them. Some LFS--definitely not all of them for sure-----will take an ich infected fish in the back and wait for the second stage of the ich where it falls off the fish. They will then return it and sell it as a healthy fish.
I know of one major chain in this area that I know does this ----thank goodness only one store.

its not a fish store, its a pet store, with mostly dumb staff (so I have found)

They claim the store policy is no quarrantine tank. They will sell them sick, out of ignorance I think.

I don't usually go there, but I have walked in a few times recently becuase I was nearby.

My thought was maybe I could appeal to their "smarter and compassionate" nature. Ya know, get the sick fish out without letting them die. Nobody would buy them in that condition.

I cant understand why any fish store wouldn't have a dedicated copper tank for their fish. .

It is pretty irritating.

He volunteered "we cant keep a hospital tank, and all the water is on the same system, so when we get a fish and put it in there, they all get sick"

how arse backwards is that?

Never "rescue" a fish from a fish store. That enables them to buy more fish and torture the new ones and allow them to die in the rescuee's tanks. If you don't rescue them, they'll take a hit in their wallet and might think twice about QTing them and offering healthy fish in the future.

I wouldnt pay for it. not a chance.

Plan was, they give fish (no cost to me) and I try to save it. If it dies, it would have anyways if it was with them. If it doesn't, free fish for me.

I find myself going into a national chain (Jack's) to buy salt when it's on sale and end up getting dirty looks after I've told staff of their sick, injured and of all things, dead fish in their tanks. I never buy fish there, but I'm always drawn to the saltwater fish to just assess if their conditions have gotten better. They continually have fish with HLLE, ich, popeye, you name it. Most of the staff is teenage kids and it's their after school job. No one there cares. It makes me sick. Do not buy fish from this LFS. Try to find a reputable one. Ask around on RC. I'm obviously not from your area, so I can't help you with that one.

Alley- It wasn't an attack on you, just everyone said the same thing...and nobody answered the question about IDing diseases.

I am going to edit my post to make the question more apparent..

*edit I cant change it because it was over an hour ago, I was not aware of that rule..**

SO, HOW does one ID fish diseases? What are some pictures/symptoms of the most popular diseases?

Indeed that is a good start. Now that mixed with the proper treatment (along with "best" products) would be awesome!
