Random Crab death : (

Hey guys, im not sure what happened, i bought 9 inverts. 3 Turbos/3 hermits/3 snails (not sure what kind...but they burrow). They were fine for about a week. Yesterday i added 3 more hermits and 2 spiral snails and 2 ocellaris clowns. I have found 1 dead (what appeared to be hermit without a shell) he was one of the bigger ones but im not sure if he was fighting with another crab for shell dominence. I also have a dead snail or what i believe is a dead snail, i will have to check if he moved when i get out of work. Since i got him, he has always seemed a little lack luster. Everything else in my tank is moving around and eating, the fish are very active and eating shrimp and swimming and breathing fine.

My levels are as follows.
Nitriates- 0
Nitrates- 0
Ammonia- 0
PH- 8.3 (between .2-.4)
Phosphate-0 (or really low can't determine between super light yellow/ super light green)

All my levels are perfect according to their respective charts..
My salinity is high, about 1.28 but im doing a 10% water change tonight to try to fix that thou.

don't know how that posted in the middle of me typing?

Anyways 1.028 is not really that high, however it would not hurt to bring it down .001 or .002. It will give you more of a buffer between evaporation and it effects on salinity. It would be considered high if the LFS kept their S= at a lower reading, which happens often, and it did not fully addapt fast enough. Inverts are very sensitive to changes in salinity and temp.

Yeah, i have a very large snail that is all over the place along with most the rest of my hermits...but that 1 snail and 1 hermit don't seem to be doing so well.

So...your saying if it was an empty shell it would have responded??
JK..LOL
Sorry, I just could not pass that one up

I would guess that seeing as how your salinity is higher than most LFS's, It was that. Did you acclimate in the bag or do a drip acclimation? I would reccommend a drip acclimation for all inverts, and find out what you LFS salinity is at.
