question about chiller size
I have a tank that with no rock or sand holds 60 gallons. (58g + overflow + skimmer + sump...totaling out at 60g)
I have TWO velocity T4 pumps on it, one for a CL and one as a return. plus the skimmer pump. And no one told me, and I never asked, that the T4's would run so HOT. With JUST the CL system on (read: one pump) the tank is over 90 degrees. With both on the water is really hot to the touch. What size chiller should I get to help cool my system down. I was thinking that since I'm not trying to come down by just a couple of degrees...and since I live in texas and it will get hot...that I should do a little over kill. I am afraid to get a 1/10 HP chiller, even thought it's rated at 130 gallons...I feel like I need to reduce a LOT of water temp. So I was thinking of the JBJ 1/5 or 1/4 HP chiller...and hopefully it will not have to kick on quite as much since it is a nice sized overkill on cooling that much water...(and the pumps themselves). I would like to buy ASAP so any helpful advice from chiller owners would be greatly appreciated.

I am partial to the Current Prime inline or the Tradewinds
http://www.current-usa.com/ http://www.tradewindchillers.com/ 1/4hp is a good size that will grow with you.

buy do you think it's just too much chiller for the size tank? I do have to think of cost here too.

Your very welcome, I to have been running into problems with heat isues latley and here we are just now starting to see temps outside hitting 70F. I had been searcing the sale forum here on reefcentral for a while looking for a used one. I had found a jbj 1/5 used on craigslist localy for sale for $400. started to compare what a new one would cost and stumbled across reefgeeks clearence sale. I figured fo $79 more I would just buy it new ang get the 2 year warrenty to boot. I am glad I could finaly be of some help.
