Water temperature question
Hi i just picked up a digital thermostat (highly recommend by the way) and noticed my temp was at 84*f and was like damm, So my main questions is would this high temp affect my corals, because ive noticed that my one coral, i think its a Gineapora, sorry bad with the names is closed up more than it is open. So i was wondering does high temp in your tank affect the openness of certain corals. Im aware that its not uncommon for most corals to be closed, so im just a little worried.
What do others keep their temperatures at, i like 76-80 range.

76 to 82 on the outside, better at 78-81. Digital thermometers are often miscalibrated. I'd check it against a good lab thermometer to see if it is accurate before I panic over the temperature (but 84 is hot).

84 is on the high side of where you want a closed system, but I second the recommendation to check it against a good ol' glass thermometer. I've had some digital thermometers that were way off when compared with a regular analog thermometer.

Goniapora is also a very difficult coral to keep with a low success rate, so it may have nothing to do with the temperature. I shoot for around 79-81 degrees personally, but 84 is generally not particularly stressful on corals.

i have a glass one, but find it hard to read, and possibly easy to get inaccurate readings, my glass says from what i can see, it is around the 80 range, but its good to know my temp level is not to high. Im not sure if thats the correct name for the coral , im new to corals so maybe ill do a thread with some pics and then get some input on the names.

the flower pot coral is hard to keep in a tank, because each polyp needs feed to stay healthy. I know a person who has had theres going on three years, but he feeds it every other day with phytoplankton and does weekly 10% water changes. His has even grown some.

Here's some info on Goniopora if you're interested. I just did a quick Google search, but all the info appears to be accurate: http://www.reefcorner.com/SpecimenSheets/goniopora.htm
