I was getting ready to order a foxface and I saw that one site says that they can nip at corals.... I used to have one and it never bothered any of my corals that I know of... Anyone here ever have any problems?

so, should be good with sps, rics, and zoas? What about hammers or frogspawns?

Mine never touched any of my corals (frogspawn included). Great fish, although I may go for something more exotic than the standard next time.

Wow, I had a guy in my local reef club that bought one just for the reason of keeping a feather duster infestation under control. But i guess each indiviual is different from the rest!

Definitely a case by case as with most fish. My foxface does not pick at corals or feather dusters or inverts. Just seems to mind his own business. He's been in my tank for over a year.

We've had ours for fours years now and the only corals he's ever gone after were brains. But this was after we first added him. All other LPS including frogspawn and hammers were fine. Several days ago we added our first brain in years. NEver even looked at it. Which leads me to think:
Maybe as they mature they get away from coral nipping? Or is this just our experience.

Mine will on a rare occasion nip my colt, doesno real harm, and leaves all other LPS alone including my open brain. I do keep him well fed with Nori on a clip during the day and twice feeds on top of that. Oh yea, he's a fatty

Mine was fine for about a year, than he developed a taste for my expensive zoas. He also taught my tang that they are good snack food as well.

I've read often that the scribbled rabbitfish is a very likely candidate to nip softies, particularly zoanthids, but my foxface has been pretty good about keeping his nose out of corals or any invert, for that matter.

Foxface and other Rabbitfish are reef safe, for the most part. However, any of them can nip at corals, especially Zoanthids. I have a Foxface in one tank, a Spotted Rabbit in another and a Scribbled Rabbit in another. None have ever bothered anything, though I watch them closely. I have a friend who had a Foxface for years with no problems at all. Woke up one day to see it munching on Zoanthids. It ate ALL of her Zoanthids in one day. Oh, forgot to mention, all she had were very expensive Zoanthids and lots of them.

My scribbled has recently devoured half of my zoas. I can't decide if he's big enough to be dipped in soy sauce and eaten with chopsticks...or chop him up and serve him to the sun corals.
