Transporting/Shipping Corals
I'm from New York and thinking about attending the Removed by RC Staff in California. I wouldn't be able to fly back until the day after the show and it would be a 9 hour plane ride with a layover. I'm trying to figure out how I would bring corals back. Anyone ever been in this situation before? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Ive heard of some people packing them up in their luggage and clearly marking them corals. If you want to bring on the plane I would call and check with airline and make sure its ok etc. You could also ship them to yourself before you leave. You would need a strofoam insulated box some heat packs and bag everything up securely. I would ship next day air for best results.

I would have someone at your house in NY put the corals in the tank for you. You would have to ship them there and teach that someone how to acclimate them. I think that would be the safest bet. And if you do ship them, make sure you get a heat pack!!! Better yet, i would find a LFS out there and just pay him a few bucks to pack it up for you.

I have gotten corals shipped to me USPS priority and they have been in the mail for 3 days without filtration. If your not buying anything too sensitive you should be alright to pack in luggage, with airline approval. They need to be kept at the proper temp at all times.

I would just overnight it to myself. Ship it the morning of your flight and then receive it the next day. Definitely get the Styrofoam heat packs, and tape it to the inside of the lid. This is how my LFS receives their goods.
9 hours wouldn't be too long, every LFS gets theirs shipped from a distributor and they are packaged for god knows how long. If you could bring it on the plane with you, awesome, definitely call your airline and see what they think. Better yet, contact Melev on here and ask him how he does it, I seem to recall him talking about picking up frags and what not at different meets. |

Here is how i have done it.
1) you can rap it in damp paper towel and put it in a zip lock bag. It should work but results vary. Oh and this is only for SPS 2) you can use the method other people are saying an ship it ahead or. 3) Use a Gatorade bottle like this and take it as carry on like this On this instance I was bringing an M. Setosa from California to MI it survived with little damage.
