Flame angel. New and dead.

So I got it two days ago. He was eating like a champ and loving life. BUT! His favorite hiding place was right where the emerald crab chills. I found him being eaten by an acan with a buldging eyeball. Best guess is that the crab attacked him and he ended up stuck to the acan. $60 bucks gone. Sweet.

I have never had a problem with emeralds. Even if the emerald nipped him the angel should have been able to get away.

When you say bulged eyeball do you mean like pop-eye?

Emeralds can be hit or miss on "fish grabbing" I think all crabs are opportunistic feeders and will take advantage of and advantageous situation. You would think the the fish would be able to get away, but if his favorite spot or sleeping spot was where the crabs hang out, then I wouldn't doubt it one bit...

Yeah he got my injured clown too. He is a little jerky. He jumps at anything nearby. Just yesterday he had to be pulled off my hermit. That theory sounds better than the acan getting him.

How big is the emerald? I hear when they get to be a certain size they start actin' like Mike Tyson.

An acanth cannot "capture" a flame angel. A very expensive crab meal

Agreed, not many corals can catch a healthy fish, but a lot of sizeable crabs can and will, even ones that are "reef safe". That's part of the fun of crabs.

Yeah, I know an acan can't capture a fish. That is why I blame the crab. The fish's eye was popped. I'll get rid of the crab. I think he's eating my macro too. Little punk.
