Just don't stick your hand in the tank for at least a week. You'll get the urge to add 25 yellow tangs to the tank all at once!!!

tsk tsk tsk, I take it your RCAC doesnt know about the copper. At my Petco the other two aqautic specialists and I are always on top of our system(as big of a pain as it is) The only time we have ich is when one of the managers decides to order things that have no business being in our tanks in the first place. Other than that Petco doesn't allow the use of any chemicals except for clout (which I threw out a long time ago) and Maracyn.

I get home to acclimate them (my sump is currently a 125 tank in the garage) and I am standing over my sump with my acclimation containers.
I set the bag on the center brace and it POPS!!!

The entire bag of water goes into my tank!!!
how is this possibly the "MOST DISGUSTING" thing?? Serious? So what if a bag of water with snails in it popped in your sump. OH NO Petco water got in your tank!!
What a lame thread.

How is that the only time ich gets in your tanks and what do the managers order that brings the ich in?

I know that the petco by my house runs copper in the invert tanks as well as the fish tanks. Most of the inverts don't last too long in their tank; they usually die within a few days. I've told them that that is the reason they die so soon, but they didn't care. Hopefully no copper got in your tank.

^^ it's not, I do all the ordering for my store and it isn't certain fish that come in with it. some are more prone (like the tangs, puffers, etc) to getting it bad once in the systems. but lots of different species come in with an already obvious infestation, even the bread and butter stuff

^some stores are worse than others

I didn't notice who posted this at first, so when I started reading I was like "Hey! There's a Staples next to our Petco, too!" Then I realized it was you posting, duh, same Petco. I'm smart.

I think you're going to be okay. David does a pretty good job taking care of their tanks. There's a couple of morons that work there, but for the most part the fish staff is decent. At least relative to what they could be...

The water change is still probably not a bad idea. Good luck!

If you think that's the most disgusting thing then you haven't met my ex!

Seriously, on the list of bad things that doesn't even nudge the Richter Scale. How about a stuck valve exchanging fresh RO/DI water for salt for 22 hours in a 625 gallon reef system? The Sg of the water dropped from 1.026 to 1.014 and corals started a mass die-off!

That's disgusting!

Good idea to have Mike Rowe in on it. I wonder about cleaning skimmate out of some large public aquarium system, like the one in Atlanta?

damn that sucks man!

But why would you put the bag ever in a position to do that. DOH!

Not to say that I've never done dumb things. Like - um - turning on my return pump with all my drain valves shut off and wondering where the water hitting my back was coming from!!!

let me see - that got me a wet back - wet tile (whew!!), a yelling wife and kid, and a nice little gouge on the top of my head as I tried to jump up with 3000 lbs of tank, water, rock and sand above my head on the stand and banged myself practically unconcious!
Luckily, I was able to turn the drains back on pretty quick and only lost about 3-5 gallons.

hahahah.

Did a large water change and have been running some poly pads.
They didn't change color so it looks like all may be ok.
