The one looks like it is missing both claws and a few legs. It's probably a goner since it won't be able to feed itself. The other appears to have pointy black claws and lots of bristles or hair. That is usually a sign that it is not reef safe. If ther is nothing you value in the refugium you can put the healthy one there. I would euthanize the damaged one. It will probably eventually die of starvation and foul the tank. Neither one should go in the display tank.

I agree with rgrobe, & From what i have read in here and one the web. I believe this to be a "gorilla crab" not something i would put in a reef tank.

I'm only working on my first salt water set up.

The gulf is a big place, unless you know where they came from in the gulf you should not put them in the gulf.

my rock came from this area off the coast...I bought it from the diver himself...Yes I agree now seeing the pic it is a gorilla crab but its bad for reef tanks notthe reef in general, and back to the gulf he will go.

They are definately gorilla crabs. I know that because i just spent sleepless nights trying to get the ones i got in on some live rock. They are neat, but are known for eating small fish and anything else they can get a hold of. IMO get rid of them.......
