can snails live off diatoms?

hey fellas, i dont have any fish so the algae is very low in my tank. however if i dont clean the glass for a week the tank looks like chewbacca drowned in it.

can snails live off this stuff?

Most snails in the hobby make their living off of diatoms- so yes.
