Odyssea light fixture and lights??
well as some of you know from previous post of mine, i was given a 72 bow from a friend. i was given the following
-72 bow - odyssea light fisture and lights - aualine skimmer -mag 7 pump -rio 1100 -wet/dry filter -LR and LS Basically every thing i need to start. here is the ? how good is a Odyssea fixture and lights. there are four slots for lights. two lights for each. 2' long each so thats four slots with 2 lights =8 lights. two sets are antic and two just white. they are both CF 65 watts and the white lights are 12000k what are your thoughts on this brand?? what can i have with these. what kind of coral?? how long do they last?? oh and an update on tank. after waiting a month from starting. i have added 20 more lbs of Fl honeycomb rock so thats about 40-50 lbs and 4" sand bed. there is one bristle i think in tank. i have turned my wet/dry into just a sump, i hope to be adding cheato. waiting for LFS to get some. i took out all the bio balls. i fixed the skimmer and hooked up a new pump to it. today if wife lets me i plan on getting a cuc. maybe 10 diff snails and 5 blue leg crabs. maybe a brittle star?

ive had the odussea MH with PC fixture and its been up and running for a year with no problems....
i have a torch coral that i had to move down because the light was too strong and zoas that love it and a gorgonian that is doing well...along with some star polips and a clam that absolutely loves it... in my opinnion i think its a great light despit the negative things people say about it... if you actually research it there are more bad reviews about customer wservice than the fixture itself. youll always hear people coplaining about something but youll never see any saying any good things about somehting when everything works as it should. my suggestion is to either look at the bulb or ask the person who you bought it from how old the bulb is to see if you should replace it soon or no. in my opinnion an odyssea will be fine for most of anything you wanna put in there. good luck! lemme know how it turns out

I dont know anything about the brand, but from how I read your post it sounds like you have just a compact florescent light fixture. Thats going to limit what corals you can have, I think softies and some LPS do well in just CF lighting.
If your fixture has MHs in it like alex's then yeah I would agree most anything can do well with that light.

The stock Odyssea MH fixture, if you have MH, is pretty weak. It is known for performing like a 150 to 175watt MH out of a 250 watt bulb. I have one for my frag tank and could not even get the stock ballast to fire a decent bulb. Just wasn't strong enough. I replaced the ballast with a Lumatek and now the fixture cranks!
There were complaints about the older fixtures not being UVL tested and being fire hazzards, but it's my understanding that they remedied that. If it's just a PC fixture, please ignore above comments.

yeah, that's a Power Compact (PC) fixture. No worries. Personally, I think PC's are highly under rated when growing soft corals like zoanthids and leathers as well as LPS corals. Hard corals (SPS) might not fair as well, not to say it's impossible.
with the right amount of reading and maintenance that could easily be a sweet set up. My first tank was a 72 bow. Loved it, but out grew it quickly. Just couldn't stop buyin stuff!!!
