@melev - concerning coral transport in aircraft

Hello Marc,

I read your notes in the Reefkeeping magazine about transport of corals in aircraft;
yes it is a pitty since the liquid rule...

My solution:
smaler frags:
I bought and colleted some plastic boxes and cans which have the maximum allowable size for onboard carry liquids but have a good format to put frags in (large opening for wider frags or longer for e.g. gorgonians..).
Example of a recent transport:
the necessary bag with the boxes and cans

the boxes and cans

the frags which I took with me on the plane.

larger corals:
I use a styro-box in which I pack the corals and check them in.
Inside the box I first put the corals in the usual transport bags which I then put into cans which I can close with a screwable top.
Like this they are pretty secure.
With this method I brought some gorgonians and corals from Austria to Lisbon (I had to pack them the evening before the trip at 1900 and they where unpacked in Lisbon the next day at 1400 - so almost 24 hours) and a few days later some corals and anemones back to Austria...

regards

Markus
