Temperature Change?
I noticed today that my temp goes from 78.5 to about 80.5. It's a 75 gal. FOWLR.
What's considered a safe range of change throughout the day? Thanks.

A 2 degree change is ok IMO. In nature the reef can swing 2 degrees (or more) very easily. Mine goes from 79.5 - 82 degrees daily.

it's fine. i've read 3-4 degrees is the most you want to see it swing, but honestly if you have regular swings your coral and fish get used to it. this is good in case you ever have a mishap and have a heater get stuck on or power goes out in december etc. what you don't want is a constant steady temp for a long time and then out of nowhere a big swing.

I swing almost 4 degrees. It is fine the key part is consistancy. If every day it swings 4 or 5 degrees, it does that evey 24 hour period. Your tank will acclimate to that. A fast temp spike or drop is bad especially if your system is used to a standard rise and drop, then has a fast change will stress the system.

Have you ever been snorkling in the reef.Went last year to mexico and went snorkling in Cozmel.I was very surprised by the temp differences. One minute very warm and the next was chilly, so i dont think 3 4 or 5 degree temp changes are a big deal.Just my 0.02 cents.
