Disposal of Sand (reef-flor grade)

Firstly : How Is it ok to just dump sand down the storm drains (I have 2 5g buckets filled with sand) and im' not sure what exactly I should do.

Now the reason why is that I had an ich (or w/e it is ..survived 5 months of cupramine/ich treatment) outbreak, and I removed my LR (but kept my sand) in my DT ..effectively turning it into a QT with sand. I removed the sand after 2 months after no effect (assuming that the sand was harboring the parasites better than the cupramine could eradicate the pests).

Now I know that the sand has absorbed quite a bit of copper, as I had to redose the cupramine levels many times.

So do i
1)add back my old sand, but use a product like cuprisorb to get rid of any copper that leeches out

2)Dispose of old sand, get new sand ?

I would just throw it away. Throw half a bucket into a trash bag from your house. 4 bags and it will be gone. Mix it in with your garbage.

toss it in the garden, backyard, over the fence, scatter it in the front yard even. It will help with drainage

Or spread it over the lawn to increase drainage. I have never seen a blade of grass with ich.

DON'T dump it down the storm drain, nothing should go down it except water; not only is it illegal, but you don't want to contaminate surface water, do you?

this is what i kinda wanna hear.

Wouldn't the sand ..if i put it my driveway (say if it's black ice) eventually get washed down to the storm drain anyways?

I wouldn't count on it. This strain of Ich is very very frustrating. I've been trying to get rid of it since october!

The best place to dispose of it would be in some kind of landscaping rocks that aren't around plants, if you have access to that. The salt will leach into the ground, but it will be gradual and won't be going right into surface water. You could throw it out in the grass, but I'd rinse it down w/ a bunch of water if you do, so the salt doesn't hurt the grass...
