Proposed bill makes F I S H and C O R A L illegal!! Please read, NOT a joke
This is NOT an april fools joke. See the link for the full story but its a bill that calls for the banning of the importation, sales and trading of NON-native species...which encompasses f ish, lawn c orals, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets etc. This will force almost every pet store/wholesaler in the country to close. They are trying to slip this bill past while the country is busy with financial crisis' and wars. Again, this is NOT a prank.

This is not a joke. You can see the full text of the bill at: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill...?bill=h111-669
It allows for 36 months to compile an "Approved list" of non-native species that can be imported. It seems like massive overkill. I imagine there are some problems caused by importation of non-native plants or animals, but why not target the dangerous species rather than reset to zero? This is asking the F ish and Wildlife service to waste a ton of time and effort studying tens of thousands of non-native species for risks then create a list of those that are approved. Interestingly it is sponsored by a congressperson from Guam. It does exempt aleady imported species and it seems to say any species already common in the US will be on the approved list. [The approved list will include species that....:] "(B) may be harmful to the United States’ economy, the environment, or other animal species’ or human health, but already are so widespread in the United States that it is clear to the Secretary that any import prohibitions or restrictions would have no practical utility for the United States." |

so by puting a species on the non aproved list, a species that is being sold for profit in the u.s. wouldn't that be harmful to the economy so wouldnt that be breaking the bills rule number 1
