Upgrading tanks - What to do with sand?

I'm going to be upgrading my 55g into a 90g soon and I'm wondering if it's worth moving the sand from the 55 into the 90 or if stirring up the sand will cause an ammonia spike. The sand isn't very old, the tank has been running since Sept 08.

Your thoughts?

How deep is the sand bed. If shallow you could move it over and probably not have any negative effects. You could always save a few cups fulls of it. Rinse the rest out and add to the 90 then use the cups to seed it again.

In some areas the sand is only about a 1/4" but in other areas it's about 3-4". All really depends on what area of the tank in relation to the amount of flow. It's 60lbs worth.
