Angry I broke down, used chemi-clean now cant skim

Hi
I broke down last week and used chemi clean as I had an unexpected out break of cyano-bacteria in my tank. 48 hours after use I did a water change as instructed. I also did one yesterday. The cyano is gone and the tank looks great but I cant turn my skimmer on without it going nuts!!!!! Has anyone used this and if so how long before I can skim again? thanks in advance for the info

Just take the collection cup off and let it run out of the skimmer back into the sump. Or turn it way down.

Try just letting the skimmer cup fill up a few times then empty it, thats what finally worked for me when I used the chemi clean.

Your skimmer is doing that because your skimmer knows what its doing. Just ride it out. Ive been thru the exact same thing. Just empty the cup regularly. I wouldnt let it over flow into the sump or youll just be returning the source to the tank.

Carbon and a poly filter will help.

thanks. the skimmer is external so I guess I can sit there and keep emptying the collection cup. I probably changed a good 50 gallons or so. I could do yet another water change.

Try seriously restricting the air into your skimmer. This will still let it skim the stuff out, but you'll get a much drier skim (and lose a lot less water).

The last time I treated my 105, I tried this, and managed to get it calmed down after about a quart of skimmate..

thanks Chuck I will try that. I am allowing much less water in at the moment which has helped a bit but will restrict the air as well.
