quiet external return pump
hello there,
I have a couple of Iwaki md-55rlt return pumps, one was used for years and the other new in the box. Last night I could not sleep from the retrun pump making a new noise that drove me nuts. I switched out the pumps and the new pump is louder than the old one. I high pitched whine that you can hear through the whole house. Can anyone recommend a quiet external return pump.? I have a 150 gallon All-glass , two overflows, 55 gallon sump with one inch bulkhead. The return is piped through a 1/3 h.p. chiller , tees off and returns through the two 3/4" standpipes in the overflows. I was looking at the snapper, or dart? they had 2" suction and 1 1/2" discharge. I need a pump with a 1" suction. I would have a hard time removing the 55 gallon to re -drill for a larger bulkhead, divided the tank with a DSB fuge on one side and skimmer filter sock on the other. There's 100+ lbs of sand , so, the 55 is not coming out. How do the mag pumps run external , anyone have any experience? thanks for your time |

Reeflos are pretty quiet pumps- although I could not stand one in my living room. The velocity/poseidon pumps are dead silent, but I dont know if they have enough flow for you. They are water cooled, and will warm the water a bit- Marine depot sells them.
