you need to find the source for the nitrates. Unfortunately scrubbing it is the only way to get it out. When you eliminate the nitrates the GHA will not grow.

Clean all filter sponges, pads and socks. Keep this up on a weekly basis, bi-weekly if you can. Do a large water change to drop the nitrates as much as possible. Keep up water changes weekly also. Clean all of your powerheads and pumps. Cut down on feedings, feed less slowly so the fish consume it all. If you dont have any corals you can remove your rock fromt he tank and cook them in a rubbermaid container or another tank.

+1 to kraze3. You can also get some hermits. Use some scissors and cut it back as close as you can get it. If your talking about this happening in your 110 gallon, some fish you can get are, a Scopas tang, a Yellow Tang, A Fox Face. All three of those will devour the hair algae. But I agree with kraze, find the source of the nitrate build up and do water changes weekly. I had a bunch and now its all gone after keeping to weekly water changes and adding hermits and a Scopas Tang.

Do you use RO/DI water for top off and water changes?
