Moving from 55 to 75 >>> Couple questions on the move
Settled on a new 75 Perfecto with corner overflow to make some room for my overgrown 55. Not much of an upgrade, but I can use most if not all of my existing equipment. My 55 is nicely established with great coralline growth and perfect parameters. Outside of some minor annoying algae here and there, it's pretty clean.
- I have a good 3" DSB right now. Should I move all this sand over and top off with new sand or start with all new sand and seed it? This will be an all at once move, so cycling really isn't going to happen. Will new sand turn into a Red Slime issue? - I'm thinking that I want a 30 gallon sump. I'm probably answering this myself, but if I don't get that sump in before the tank goes on then I probably can't get it in later ... AGREED? (Use my 20 gallon sump today and move to a 30 later) - I have a Mag5 return today, and I use a CPR90 with 1" bulkhead. The new overflow has > 1" overflow tube, but goes into a 1" bulkhead. 1" bulhead on the return. Will this Mag 5 be able to handle it for awhile until I throw down for Mag 7, or will I need a Mag 7 up front? |

My thoughts:
1. I would rinse the DSB as all the trapped junk may give you issues once stirred. Keep a couple of cups to re-seed 2. Modify the stand for the sump prior to installing tank. This generally either means making the center brace removable via "L" brackets or adding a cabinet door to the side of the stand. It's so much easier if you can remove the sump for maintenence. 3. The Mag 5 will be fine for a single corner overflow. |
