Change to a DSB
Four months ago I changed half of my gravel substrate to sand. About a week ago I changed the reset of it to sand. I am now wondering how long it will take for the DSB to help with nitrates, is it immediate or does it take time.
Thanks,

Right around 4 weeks or so you should see some change with a couple months for it to kick in. You will be able to see some bubbles here and there and down the road they will pop out of the sand every once in a while.
Getting a cup or two of livesand from a local reefer who has a parasite free tank with a healthy well established sandbed can help alot too. You also get some beneficial critters with it. How deep is it? For real NNR benefits you should be minimum 3 inches, with 4 to 6 inches being optimum. |

It is about 4 inches deep and I have lots of worms and other critters in it from before. I have not seen any bubbles yet, but I'll be watching for them now. Thanks.
