storage of saltwater....
Hello, I'll be moving an established reef tank soon and had a question about storing recently made up saltwater. How long can I store the SW that I made up in a 32 gallon Brute trash can ?
I'll obviously be using as much of the old water as I can but I'm thinking I probably won't have enough water to refill the entire 120 gallons with just 30 gallons of new SW. I plan on keeping a heater and Maxi-Jet running in the Brute. I assume I can keep live rock in a big ol' tub with a pump and heater keeping things mixed up and at a constant temp, so I figured I could use that water too if necessary. |

Wouldn't worry if it is covered. I have RODI water for top ups, and SW for water changes in the basement constantly. I top it up only, not replace it. Also had my mail order rock in a tub for 6-8 weeks waiting for my tank to be set up (w/ heat and flow) without a problem.

The premixed salt water will keep for a while, but you should keep a powerhead or two in there to keep the water moving. I also keep a heater in there to keep the temp the same as the tank. this way if I need it, its ready right away. I would also keep a lid on it & keep it covered.
