suggestions on new fish
I would like to add a fish to my tank but I'm concerned because I have a yellow tang that has been in there for about 3 years and I know how territorial they can be, although my clown draws blood everytime I clean my tank (what a witch). I guess I'd like to know what people think. I added my tang last due to this but I lost my coral beauty a few months back and would love another fish in there. I have a 90 gal with a fairy wrasse, 2 occ clowns, my tang, and a pink spotted goby. I'm thinking a flame angel, or red flame hawk. My daughter really want a hippo tang but I don't want an ick problem. Thanks for all coments!

I think either of your choices would be fine to add. I've added fish after my YT and not had problems. They're usually agressive to other tangs but not so bad with other fish.
Is he agressive toward any of the fish currently in your tank? If you do have an issue, you can try removing the YT to QT for a couple of weeks then re-introducing him, or move some rocks around to shift the territories a little.

Tangs will object to other tangs with similar body shapes, but I've not had problems with adding dwarf angels to a tank containing a Yellow Tang. Hawkfish can get aggressive, so be careful if you add one. I had to remove a Hawkfish from a 55 gallon tank, and he was impossible to catch.

Have to agree with most everyone else on this one. Tangs + tangs = not so good, tangs + other types of fish = not so bad. My sailfin never harassed my coral beauty or my wrasse. Luckily I added my chocolate tang first to the 150 and moved the sailfin a few days after. They've been together now for a little over a week with just a little bickering at first. Now they are like best friends. Whatever you do, good luck and happy hunting!

Ive done a few tangs together(as much as 3) IMO Ive found that if you do some changes in the tank,as in move rocks change territorys, you can kind of fool the fish so to speak, then the new ones are on even ground with the others, and they all set up a new ground "rights".Doing what I mentioned may also help with that clown.I had a damsel like that once, lil bugger would nip hard and draw blood,so one day I fished him out with a hook, floss and a peice of pepperoni..but thats another story for another time..lol for the hippos or other tangs,Ive also found having a grounding probe in yr tank helps.without one the tiny amount of current that goes thru the tank stresses them out.Although other factors apply,ie water quality, good enviroment, diet. Hope this helped
